Benevolence Ministry
Jesus said that, as Christians, we must help people with the basic necessities of life. Our Benevolence Outreach Program is designed to do just that. Its purpose is to serve those in need with material items and/or service, so they may be connected to Christ and grow in full devotion to Him.
For many years, the Pikeville Church participated in the H.O.P.E. (Helping Our Poor Exist) program based out of Phelps. However, our program was continually growing, so we believed it best to begin our own benevolence program to help the less fortunate of our area.
The Pikeville Church Benevolence Program, known as "Handfuls on Purpose" exists to distribute food to those who fall in a poverty-level income area. Those served do not have to be church members, just members of the community at large.
In order to make our church benevolence program a success, we need the involvement of our people. Once each month, church volunteers travel to a warehouse in Prestonsburg to pick up groceries and bring them back to our church garage. Once monthly, we also need volunteers for our "Service service" where we bag or box groceries for the families in need. Then, the following Tuesday, additional volunteers are needed to meet at the garage to distribute the groceries.
