From Our Minister

Hello,

I'm Steve Knisley, minister at the Pikeville Church of Christ. I'm glad that you have taken the time to visit our website.  I am glad because I view it as an opportunity to share with you about Jesus and what Christianity is about.

In helping to lead the Pikeville Church I have the privilege and the responsibility of teaching people how to have a personal relationship with God.  I get to share the message of Christianity every time I step onto the platform to preach. My vision, however, is for the Pikeville to become a community where that message is shared in our offices, neighborhoods, our kids' sports teams, our schools...in short, our everyday lives, 24/7.

Here at the Pikeville Church of Christ, we stress that a mature, healthy Christian is someone who practices some simple disciplines that are taught the Bible. We believe that Christians should gather together with other Christians on a regular basis in small, medium, and large groups. We believe community life together should include worshipping God, studying the Bible, serving one another, giving generously, building meaningful relationships, and sharing our faith with others.

Here at the Pikeville church, we place the highest emphasis on preaching and teaching God's word. We want to reach those round us the message of Jesus. This is our highest priority.  With that said, it is important to know that our message will not change, "for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved" and that is the name of Jesus.  However, our methods must change, we must adapt to the times. Dave Stone at Southeast Christian Church said it best when he said "It's impossible to reach a MP3 culture with 8-Track methodology."

Our mission is to be relevant, discovering ways that all can understand the message of Jesus and embrace him.  But we cannot expect people to connect to Jesus if we sit back and wait for them to come to us, so we have to go to them, whoever they are, wherever they are throughout the Pikeville area and show them the love the Christ.
